[T]here may be a hundred different ways of being in love.” ~ Jane AustenAnd a hundred different ways not to recognize it.~ ~ ~"Emerett Has Never Been In Love" is a fun, fast-paced gay romance retelling of Jane Austen's Emma.Book Emerett Has Never Been In Love (Love, Austen Book 1) Review :
A gender bent Jane Austen story! Loved it! (I am a sucker for Jane Austen books and Emma is one of my faves.) Emerett is so busy trying to play matchmaker for people around him that he just can’t see what is staring him in the face. Which is namely that his best friend’s dad Knightly is hopelessly in love with him. This was just as much fun as the original story it’s based on and I loved every word! You can read between the lines and see what is going on around Emerett, even if he can’t himself. Another thing I really liked in this adaptation is our main character is never cruel. Emma was very cruel in the original story, even if not fully intentionally. In this story, our cupid hero is oblivious, but he would never dream of being so thoughtless and hateful. All of the other characters were so well written. I was kept in stitches reading the antics of Emerett’s misguided matchmaking as he reads everything so disastrously. He almost misses out on his own happiness sticking his nose in everyone else’s business. I hope the author writes more of these because I would love to see how she handles other Austen stories. This shot straight into my top 5 books of 2021 so far. An excellent read from Anyta Sunday.Anyta excels in the slow burn trope. In fact, I don’t know any other author in the genre who can do it as well as she can without boring me or making me feel as if the book is too long, even when it’s under 200 pages. What I loved about this is the amount of humor that was woven in WITHOUT it dragging down the dialogue and cheapening it to a bunch of one-liners. The sass and snark and sarcasm was natural to the characters, and each character was truly unique and their own. It had a large cast, but I never felt lost at trying to figure out who everyone was.We start seeing early on the feelings developing between Knight and Lake, but Nothing is rushed, and the pacing is truly perfect. This was such a delightful read - genuinely.I am someone who likes to keep to e-books for sake of clutter and preventing waste, but every now and then a book just beckons me to purchase it in physical form - and this is one of them! The cover art is to die for, and there were several sweet illustrations peppered throughout. Such an incredible touch.
